Incumbent State Rep. David Torrisi of North Andover has been defeated by challenger Diana DiZoglio of Methuen in the Democratic Primary.
DiZoglio garnered about 1,600 votes, and Torrisi got 1,435.
This primary race had emerged as a heated one, as unions began endorsing DiZoglio and DiZoglio signs started popping up on lawns across the Essex 14th District.

Torrisi won in North Andover but his local lead was not enough to offset defeats in other communities in the district. North Andover was the only community in which Torrisi won.
DiZoglio will now go on to face Republican Karin Rhoton in the general election for the seat.
