VIDEO AND IMAGES: Chief Stanley Speaks About Fatal Accident

Police Chief Richard Stanley said we are lucky only one person died, considering the extent of damage at the scene.

At about 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, North Andover Police received several 911 calls about a major accident on Route 114 near Merrimack College and the Royal Crest Estates.

Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and found a horrific scene -- one driver, a man about 48 years old, was dead at the scene, and a truck was engulfed in flames. A third car was badly damaged as well. Police closed Route 114 near Merrimack College.

Police are not releasing the man's identity until his next of kin is notified. North Andover Police Chief Richard Stanley made a brief statement, which you can watch in this video.

"We're very lucky it was just one person that passed away," Stanley said.

The truck involved belonged to Rexel, an electrical supplies distributor with branches in Danvers and Woburn. The driver of that truck had made it out of his vehicle safely, despite the truck having burst into flames. The driver of the third car also made it out safely as well.
