Two Injured in Crash Near Merrimack College

One person was medflighted to Boston.

A woman was medflighted to Boston after a car crash involving her and another driver on Route 114 near Merrimack College Monday morning.

Police said Diane M. Kakis of Chelmsford was driving her white Toyota sedan when her car collided with a Toyota pick-up truck driven by Paul Fugere of Andover.

"One was driving eastbound, and one was going westbound," Police Lt. Charles Gray said.

Kakis suffered serious injuries and was medflighted from a field at Merrimack College to a hospital in Boston. There is still no update on her condition. Fugere was taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

The accident caused the busy road to be shut down for nearly an hour while police investigated the scene.

Gray said there have been no charges or citations regarding the accident, which is still under investigation by the Accident Reconstruction Team.

This accident is the latest among several in that section of town in recent months. In the past year, there have been two rollover accidents on that part Route 114 -- one of which resulted in a fatality -- as well as a pedestrian fatality last month.
