Small Greenhouse Fire and Roommate Gunfire

The following information was supplied by the North Andover Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are excepts from the log.

Friday, Sept. 30

At 1:51 p.m., there was a small fire at North Andover High School in the greenhouse. The fire was extinguished when fire crews arrived, and it appeared to have been caused by a small cardboard box left leaning against a light.

At 10:22 p.m., a caller reported that kids were throwing sticks into the road at Dale and Salem streets. The kids were gone when police arrived.

Saturday, Oct. 1

At 8:46 a.m., there was smoke reported at Sutton Hill Nursing home. It had been caused by burnt toast.

At 6:15 p.m., Kohl's reported a shoplifter. Police arrested Jose Cedeno, 40, of 48 Holly St., Lawrence, for shoplifting and for several trial court warrants for crimes, including breaking and entering and several counts of larceny.

At 8:30 p.m., police went to Merrimack College and arrested William Cosgrove, 18, of 221 Vincent Road, Dedham, for being a minor in possession of alcohol and carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Sunday, Oct. 2

At 9:23 a.m., a caller on Lacy Street complained about a neighbor operating his wood lot on a Sunday. Police spoke with the neighbor, but he was only using it for personal use, not business.

At 2:06 p.m., Kohl's reported a shoplifter. Police arrested Alex A. Gomez, 26, of 86 Beacon St., Lawrence, for shoplifting.

At 5:47 p.m., a caller reported that his friend told him to call the police because his roommate was firing a gun in their home. Police arrested Eric Halwix, 42, of 20 Commonwealth Ave., for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
