Selectmen Extend Gallagher's Contract

The new contract keeps him around until 2016.

North Andover Police Chief Paul Gallagher will be sticking around for another two years.

Selectmen voted unanimously Monday night to extend Gallagher's contract -- set to expire this year -- until 2016.

"We recognize the tremendous job Chief Gallagher has done," Town Manager andrew Maylor said, adding that there was no contract tug-of-war. "These were not highly intense stressful discussions."

Gallagher was appointed chief in 2011 and indicated at that time that he would like to serve in that role for five years and then perhaps retire. This new contract brings his tenure to that five years.

"Any time i go around town to give a speech... I always mention that the board of elected officials are fantastic to work with," Gallagher said in thanking the board Monday night. "Working with Andrew [Maylor] and Ray [Santilli, assistant town manager], they always have the right answer or if not they find the right answers."
