Police Help in Pursuit of Car Before Andover Crash

The driver and the passenger have not been found.

It was an eventful start of the week, as were involved in a high-speed chase early Monday morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m., officer Pat Beirne saw a car driving by him near Massachusetts Avenue with sparks flying out of the back. State Police had been chasing the car from Lawrence, and Beirne then turned around and joined in pursuit.

State Police have not specified what crime the men were alleged to have originally committed.

The driver fled down 125 southbound, and Beirne noticed the car seemed to have difficulties with its motor -- the car was going about 70 miles per hour, North Andover Police Lt. Charles Gray said.

Officer Bill Brush then joined in the pursuit, but the car fled into Andover.

In Andover, the car crashed into bushes at Elm and Maple streets.

Police in Andover rushed to the car, but the driver and passenger were gone. State and local police into the morning hours, but still have not located them.

A State Police helicopter was in the area of Main and Chestnut streets in Andover during the search, and a state police K-9 unit was also brought in.

Trombly Brothers of North Andover then towed the The Integra, which has major damage to it.

No police officers were injured in the chase or crash.
