Police Chief Stanley Leaving for Wareham?

Wareham's town administrator has appointed North Andover Police Chief Richard Stanley to be Wareham's police chief, but Stanley has not confirmed or denied that he is leaving North Andover.

The Wareham Observer is reporting that North Andover Police Chief Richard Stanley has been appointed Wareham's new chief of police. But neither Stanley nor North Andover Town Manager Mark Rees have announced that he is leaving North andover.

Wareham Town Administrator Mark Andrews announced the appointment Tuesday night, the Observer reports. Selectmen there voted 3-1 to approve the appointment as well as a salary of $166,000 a year.

Stanley has been using vacation time every Friday to serve as Wareham's interim police chief on Fridays and weekends since 2009.

There has been talk for months that Stanley would leave North Andover to serve in Wareham as permanent police chief. But last month as he Stanley said that he had turned down a good job because his heart is in North Andover.

And last night in during the Board of Selectmen meeting, nothing was mentioned about the situation, even as selectmen in Wareham were approving Stanley as their police chief.
