Marathon Bombing Suspect Tsarnaev Due in Federal Court

Dzhokar Tsarnaev has been indicted on 30 counts including using weapons of mass destruction and murder.

The lone suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing will appear in court Wednesday, nearly two weeks after a grand jury returned a 30-count indictment against him.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, will appear before a judge at the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston at a probable cause hearing at 3:30 p.m.

The 70-page indictment against him includes charges of weapons of mass destruction and murder. Seventeen of the charges carry a potential death penalty sentence, according to a June 28 statement released by U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has yet to appear in court. He was initially arrested April 19 and charged while in a hospital, where he recuperated from wounds sustained in the nearly 24-hour standoff with law enforcement. From there, he was transported to Fort Devens in Ayer.

Dzhokhar and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed during the gunfight with police in Watertown April 19, are alleged to have created a pair of bombs that exploded at the Boston Marathon finish line April 15 killing three and wounding hundreds.
