Man Who Fled Police Eludes K-9 Unit

The following are excepts from the North Andover Police log.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

At 1:43 a.m. police received a call for a drunken person at the CVS, 110 Turnpike St. Officers contacted the person's parents and escorted him home.

At 2:36 a.m. a man took off running when he noticed a police cruiser in the vicinity of Thompson School. Further assistance was dispatched and an Essex County K-9 unit spotted the man in the Doctor's Park heading toward Mass. Ave. Officers were unable to locate the man. Officers checked cars in the area and none of them appeared to have been broken into.

At 3:19 a.m. a caller from 26 Lavender Circle reported a bat in the house. An officer helped remove the bat.

At 7 p.m. police arrested a man at Mass. Ave. and Route 495 and charged him with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

At 10:27 a.m. a caller reported three coyotes running around in the area of Rea and Summer streets. The caller said one of them didn't look well. An officer who followed up said there was no problem with this group of coyotes.

At 11:04 a.m., a caller from 800 Osgood St. reported a fox walking around in circles. An officer checked the area and found nothing.

At 11:58 a.m. there was a call for a dead goose at 242 Foster St. The animal's remains were removed.

At 12:21 p.m. a caller reported being the victim of a hit-and-run at Mill Road and Turnpike Street.

At 1:55 p.m. two callers reported seeing a man running into a silver Saab at Harold Parker and Turnpike streets and driving toward Middleton. A North Andover officer stopped the car in front of the Middleton Police Department and that department made two arrests.

At 2:52 p.m. police responded to Andover and Turnpike streets and arrested Jaime McMaster, 36, of 224 N. State St., Concord, N.H. and charged her with operating under the influence, fourth offense; speeding and marked lanes violation.

At 5:58 p.m. police responded to a Middlesex Street address for a report of a man stabbed in the hand with a screwdriver. The man refused to be taken by ambulance for treatment. Police arrested a 49-year-old woman and charged her with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

At 7:50 p.m. police arrested Michael S. Monteforte, 45, 37 Maplewood St., Malden and charged him with two counts of felony daytime breaking and entering and 11 counts of receiving stolen property. The arrest was made at 65 North Main St. in Middleton.

At 10:15 p.m. police responded to the Knights of Columbus/Camelot at 550 Sutton St. They arrested Vincent Mitrano, 59, 110 Riverpoint Way, Apt. 5111, Lawrence and charged him with operating under the influence, second offense.
