Children's Homemade Obama Sign Stolen

The kids spent hours making a political sign, only to find it gone in the morning.

Who would rip down a yard sign painted by children? That's what one family wants to know.

Salem Street resident Stephanie Murphy's two sons -- Finn, age 7, and Donncha, age 3 -- spent hours making an Obama sign, painted in blue and red on a sheet, and hung it on their fence to show their support for the president. On Sunday night, someone ripped that sign down. The Murphy family awoke to find just a thread hanging.

This isn't the first time the Murphys have had political signs stolen. Their signs supporting Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren have been stolen twice recently.

"What does it teach the kids when things are stolen and voices are silenced?" Murphy asked. "We all have a right to our opinions and I think these disrespectful actions are unpatriotic, and also a very negative reflection on the opposing party as a whole."

Whether the action was partisan or simply vandalism, Murphy is frustrated at the hostility of it, as it involves her young children.

"We understand people have differing political views, but part of being a good citizen is respecting other peoples ideas, values, work, and property," Murphy said. "The boys were proud of the sign and worked hard to make it. There is a lesson here for all of us, no matter which side you are on."
