Mary Ann Esposito Visits Pazzo!

This weekend, Mary Ann Esposito, host and creator of Ciao Italia on PBS visited Pazzo Gelato to create an exclusive gelato flavor! We infused Filippo Berio US to create ‘Ciao Italia Olive Oil Crunch’ with toasted coconut and chocolate, and it was incredible!

Over the last months, or has it been a year, I've been reading the Pazzo Gelato blog describing how great this product is or how great that product is. Since all the products have fancy names, I don't really now what you're talking about. I just assume its some sort of fancy jello. Since I'm not a big fan of jello, I've been reading the posts and giving them all a big "whatever". A couple of times, I've wondered where Pazzo Gelato is located. The posts have NEVER mentioned where it's located. Since the blog uses all those fancy unpronounceable Italian names, I've always assumed your shop was somewhere closer to Boston. Now since I obviously don't have much of a discerning taste and my Italian is sub-par, I'm sure I wouldn't be the most welcome person at your establishment. However, since I don't know exactly what it is you sell and don't know where you're located, the chances of me darkening your door is extremely low - but I wish you all the success in the world.

MikeA: I'm sorry we have not done a better job of describing our restaurant. My wife and I created Pazzo Gelato Cafe over the course of 3 years. We are not a franchise but a true mom and pop operation. Our signature product is gelato which is the Italian version of ice cream. The difference is that gelato has much less fat in it than ordinary ice cream because of the fact that it is made mostly with whole milk and a much smaller quantity of heavy cream than regular ice cream. The other main differences are that gelato has much less air whipped into it during production so it more dense and creamy than ordinary ice cream and because it has less fat in it, we serve it at a warmer temperature so that you do not get an instant cold sensation in your mouth but rather the full flavor of the gelato. Along with our gelatos, I also make sorbets which are completely dairy free, fat free and vegan and a great option for people who have dairy allergies or want an even lighter frozen dessert. We also serve pressed sandwiches (paninis) adn baked goods such as cookies, brownies, cakes. Everything is made here in the true old world tradition. I make all the gelato and all the baked goods from scratch. I get my milk and cream from Shaw Farm in Dracut and use no artificial colors, preservatives, dyes or extracts. Any fruit flavor you try is made from real fruit and real fruit only. We are located at 99 Turnpike Street in the Eaglewood Shops which is the plaza directly across the street from the Eagle Tribune on Rt 114 and the same plaza where Burton's is located. I hope you will come by and give us a try and introduce yourself. My name is Jim Demotses.

Jim, Thanks for the detailed description of you shop. Now that I know the "scoop", I'll mention it to my family and you might get tired of seeing us. Best wishes, MikeA
