3.21 - Global Down Syndrome Awareness Day

Today (3.21) is Global Down Syndrome Awareness Day--chosen specifically to highlight the extra or triplication of the 21st chromosome consistent in all individuals with Down syndrome. Tonight, the city of Boston, will light up the Zakim Bridge in yellow and blue as an homage of this meaningful day to thousands of families that reside across the Bay State. In North Andover, many families will be celebrating their children with Down syndrome -- some of which participate monthly in a North Andover-based playgroup founded by mothers of children with Down sydnrome, called Morning Travelers (http://www.morningtravelers.org/calendar.html) So, keep your eyes open today and if you come across a person with Down syndrome, share a high five, handshake or hug with members of our community who contribute in their own special ways, each and every day.
