VIDEO: Veterans Day 2011

North Andover had a huge turnout for its Veterans Day Parade.

Onlookers lined the streets Friday as North Andover celebrated Veterans Day with a parade and a ceremony afterward.

The parade started at 10:15 and headed up Main Street from near Town Hall to accompanied by music played by the North Andover High School Marching Band and the Clan MacPherson Bagpipe Band.

The ceremony, held in the park after the parade, was hosted by North Andover Veterans Agent Ed Mitchell. The ceremony honored Lucien R. Clermont, a veteran of World War II and former American Legion commander who passed away recently.

Sargent School Cub Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance. And the Blue Star Banner of Service (given to families of those serving overseas) was presented to the family of Master Sgt. Cynthia F. Cassille.

One particularly interesting part was the reading of "The New Colossus," the poem written by Emma Lazarus and engraved inside the Statue of Liberty, in honor of the 125th anniversary of the statue's dedication. The poem was read by Mitchell's own daughter, Lauren, now an ROTC cadet.
