Local Dance Studio To Perform Opening Act for Radio City Rockettes

Just Dance will take the stage at the Wang Theater in Boston this Sunday.

The talented dancers of located at 65 Flagship Drive, have been given the distinct honor of taking the same stage as the world famous Radio City Rockettes who are performing their Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Citi Performing Arts Center at the Wang Theater through Dec. 28.

This exciting opportunity was presented to Just Dance owner, Melissa Blais, through a friend from New York City and she was thrilled to go through the application and audition process to have her young dancers perform. Video-taped footage of the Just Dance team was submitted to show their skill level and performance ability. The Rockettes then had the final say to determine which of the select studios asked to audition would ultimately perform their opening numbers.

Eighteen of the 57 Just Dance competition dance team who auditioned were chosen for this special performance to be held this Sunday at 12 p.m. Auditions were held within Just Dance to determine who would make it and those that did are extremely excited for the opportunity. The group ranges in age from 11 to 18 and whether on the younger or older side, each dancer is just as excited as the next to take part in this high profile show.

The Just Dance team has had just four to five weeks to prepare and those dancing are 100 percent dedicated to their rehearsal times and take their commitment very seriously.

“They are always ready for a challenge like this,” said Blais. Many have seen shows at the Wang Theatre before and can’t believe that they will now being taking the stage themselves. “They are beyond thrilled,” she said.

In the past, the dancers at Just Dance have had the good fortune of performing for the Boston Celtics over the last three years and have had vast experience traveling for their own competition performances, but performing with the Rockettes now takes their experience to the next level, of which they are extremely proud, as is Blais.

“You work so hard with these kids and you want them to be able to have opportunities like this,” said Blais. “But to have it actually come true and see the excitement on their faces and to be able to say that I did that for them...words can’t really describe that – it’s just unbelievable.”

The dancers will be performing to the song “Happy Holidays” which was mandated by the Rockettes, however Blais is also very proud to have been entrusted with the choreography for the number. Having her experience and professionalism recognized for a show of this caliber was personally very rewarding for Blais.

“It’s a good way for us to set off the holidays,” said Blais.
