TOP 5 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU MOVE TO THE ANDOVERS

5.  Make some new friends:

A good place to begin would be to take an hour and walk around bustling downtown Andover peaking into a few of the shops, grabbing a coffee (one shop per block), a seat in front of Old Town Hall, window shopping along Main Street, and browsing titles at the book store.  Smile all along the way and say 'hello' to some of your new friends. You see, our New Englander reputation of cold, unfriendly and snobby couldn't be farther from the truth. Smile. By now you have connected with someone.

But if you would like to add to that list, here are a few other suggestions:

Newcomersandneighbors.org – is a great place to start.   If you've got tots, there's Moms and Tots and there's Wine Tasting, and 20 more. So if you just feel like meeting new people and doing something different,  there’s a group for that!

4.  Find Fun Things To Do With Your New Friends

Art, music, recreation. Art, music, recreation – any or all of these are plentiful. There is the Andovers Artists' Guild, Addison Gallery of Art, Ward Hill Reservation, Goldsmith Reservation, Stevens Coolidge Place, Essex Art Center, Crossroads Coffee House to name a few. Google for details.

The choices are endless – There is almost always something fun going on from early morning fitness bootcamps, to bell ringing.

3.  For Fitness and Fun:

North Andover's Old Center Common is a wonderful walking ground with its level sidewalk that adds a 1/2 mile to your tally each time around. How high can you count?

If you’re a runner or cyclist you’ve got routes from 2.5 to 50 miles.  Check this mapped route at http://www.nscyc.org/north_andover_2009

or visit www.mapmyride.com/us/ma/ and map your own.

There is a leash law but dogs in tow are welcomed nearly everywhere.

There are frisbee games, dogs chasing frisbees, volleyball for fun, yoga groups, family picnics, public concerts (in season). Park aside this quintessential New England common and pull up a blanket for some people watching.

Ask Susan: CEO of the Susan Sells Team and Life Just Right, Susan Rochwarg loves road biking and recreational running at least 10 miles a week. Having a full-time life does not make Susan too busy for a fit and healthy life.  "Being an entrepreneur, compels me to be involved in things that make a change in myself as well as others. I'm focussed on bringing something new to my community of friends that they may not be looking for or know they wanted or needed and effecting that change." says Susan. 2.  Find Your Lifestyle Fit; a place to call yours. I'm talking about Real Estate – We have just a few tips on how to find the perfect fit in a home for you in the Andovers!

Ask Yourself How and What? Listen between your thoughts.

Q: How will I know if it's the right time to buy?

A: You will know by how you feel. Watch for it in their eyes; your family will tell you. When you get the keys and rest your head on the pillow that night, you'll know it's the right time.  When you begin watching the market, spotting your faves and saving listings on your mobile, you know your ready for the change . We are expert at asking questions to help us understand together what's important for you and what having it will do for you and your family, loved ones and friends. It's completely different for everyone we help but when we get what 'life just right' is for you, we can help you make the moves

Q: How will I know where to look?

A: First, think about what you want to do day in and day out and where you want to do it. Ask yourself what's important in terms of conveniences, services or access.  Do you like to walk out the door for your run or prefer walking out the door for your coffee? Will you hop on the highway directly from the driveway? Begin searching on-line to check listings in your price target range. Here's a great new mobile app to download- http://app.kw.com/kw/index.php?tcode=KWCX2EJE&ctmpl=kw One of our agents can then help you to interpret the housing in the area with you and your budget in mind.

Q: What else should I know about the Andovers housing market?

Step one- You should know that the media and on-line sites reporting estimated pricing and costs per square foot are nearly always behind the curve or just spitting out data without research or interpretation of trailing and leading indicators in the local market or neighborhood.  You should know that not all areas or price ranges are seller's markets.  You should know interest rates are still low. You should know that it's always a great time to make a great deal in real estate if you equip yourself well. You should know that there are usually more homes for sale in spring market but there prices ramp up and peak during those months as well. You won’t be competing with as many buyers for those homes now. And you should know that all of us at Susan Sells love helping you see through all this to make the best decisions for you as we play our role finding 'life just right' for you.
