A Day in the Life of a Dog Walker

An introduction about the thoughts and experiences of a girl who walks dogs for a living.

Hello!  Let me introduce myself. I'm Kim Palermo. And I'm a dog walker!

Not too long ago, I absolutely hated to introduce myself.  I had spent my entire life working towards a career with animals.  But after graduating from UNH with a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology, all I could find was a sales job.  And not even an outside sales job!  Just a boring, drab, inside sales job.  Complete with a cubicle, phone, and office drama.

I hated it.  Sure I was making money, but I still hated it.  And I hated to introduce myself.  Because I had become what I had vowed I'd never become, and I hadn't followed my dream.

Flash forward to present day, and I love to introduce myself!  I walk dogs for a living!  That's right, while others spend their day in a cubicle, I'm out in the sunshine playing with pups.  On top of that, I run my own dog walking and training business, BlueDog.  It wasn't easy getting here, but I'm loving every day of it!

But I don't want to rub it in too much.  I mean, even dog walkers have their hardships.  Try getting to 10 dog's houses by 2pm during a New England blizzard.  Or spending a day being dragged around by dogs while fighting the flu.  Or correctly scheduling over 100 walks a week.  It isn't always easy!

But at least I like to introduce myself.  And on top of that, I love to share what I've learned.  Walking dogs, you can certainly learn a lot.  Training dogs, you can learn even more!  So I'm happy to share my thoughts, tips, and stories as a girl whose life revolves around dogs.

Hello, I'm Kim Palermo. I hope you enjoy my blog : )
