Coco senate campaign gains Greater Newburyport City Coordinator; Son of former City Council President to rally support for small business owner

State Senate candidate Tim Coco named Benjamin Swartz, the son of the former Newburyport City Council President, the campaign's Greater Newburyport City Coordinator.

Benjamin J. Swartz, son of the first woman to hold the post of Newburyport City Council president, has joined the Coco for Senate campaign as Greater Newburyport city coordinator.

Swartz, son of former Newburyport City Council President Brenda L. Reffett, is organizing door-to-door canvasses in Newburyport and recruiting supporters daily through a grassroots operation.

“Ben brings a wealth of local knowledge and solid electoral experience,” said Coco. “Everyone on the campaign is excited to have him lead our outreach to the voters of Newburyport.”

Previously, Swartz played a role in former Newburyport Mayor John Moak’s Campaign, state Representative Paul W. Mark’s election in the Second Berkshire District and Senator Gale D. Candaras’ First Hampden and Hampshire District re-election campaign. He was born and raised in Newburyport and attended Westfield College as a history major.

“What is so great about Tim is what sets him apart—he’s not a politician. He’s running for office because he believes whole-heartedly in the community and wants to see citizens flourish through improving our schools and strengthening our local economy,” said Swartz.

Coco is a life-long resident of Haverhill, has owned a small business for 21 years and leads a variety of local charitable, civic and business groups.

“As we continue to go door-to-door across the district, people are saying they want a committed leader, not a typical politician.” said Coco. “I want the voters of Newburyport and beyond to know I hear them loud and clear.”
