Veterans Day Parade Details

Here are the details.

Monday is Veterans Day, a day in which we honor all those who have served to protect our nation.

Veterans Day was once Armistice Day, proclaimed on Nov. 11, 1919, to celebrate the end of World War I on that day a year before.

World War I turned out not to be the "war to end all wars," as the world would learn with World War II. In the 1950s, Congress voted to change the name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day so the holiday could celebrate all veterans of all wars.

North Andover will have its Veterans Day Parade Monday. Here are the details:

  • The parade will form at 9:45 a.m. at the First & Main Plaza.
  • Parade will start at 10:15 a.m. then head up Main Street and stop for services at Patriots Memorial Park. Then it will proceed forward on Main Street to the VFW. At the VFW, the flag will be raised and there will be a salute to deceased veterans.
  • Weather is expected to be in the low 50s degrees, so make sure to wear a jacket. Skies are expected to be mostly sunny, but this is New England, so that could change.
  • If the weather gets nasty, services will be held at North Andover Middle School at 10:30 a.m.

And as always, we at Patch thank all veterans for their service to our country.
