Sargent Grads Give School New Music Equipment

And students are already enjoying the melody.

Keeping with tradition, the Sargent Elementary School graduating fifth grade Class of 2013 left a gift behind for the school.

And this year's gift may be music to your ears.

After several fundraising efforts, the students donated $2,756.66 to the school’s music department to purchase ten bass resonator bars, an alto xylophone, a Tascam digital recorder and 15 pairs of mallets.

"I’m very glad that our fifth grade class was able to do something that will affect many grades to come," student Allison Determan said. "Also, I am happy to know that all of the students are playing instruments in music class."

Past fifth grade gifts to the school -- aimed at celebrating the kids' transition to middle school -- have included a swing set, a sign for the entryway to post school news and a tree.
