YMCA Promotes Fall Fitness

The YMCA advises members not to wait until a new year to make their resolutions of staying healthy.

As the school year approaches, the is getting ready for their fall session, which runs from Sep. 6 to Oct. 24.

The program is geared towards healthy living, and this year’s fall programs are designed for families to learn different exercise techniques while still being able to experience family bonding.

“The general intent is to get people to re-commit to their resolutions,” executive director Carrie Anderson said.

  • One of the new classes that will be incorporated in the fall session is the Ready To Be Fit class, which is geared toward people who want to exercise but just do not know where to begin.
  • For those who are more advanced, the YMCA offers strength training classes and wellness challenges.
  • They have also decided to add a brand new nutritious piece to benefit those who have difficulties with the eating aspect of keeping healthy. The diet analysis software allows individuals to keep track of their food intake initiated by an instructor.
  • The YMCA offers a child watch program, which allows parents who have children to leave their kids in an enjoyable environment for up to two hours, while they are able to exercise elsewhere in the building.
  • Another similar activity that the YMCA holds is the parent’s night out. During this activity, parents are able to have a night out to themselves, while their children are cared for in a safe environment.

“Living a healthy lifestyle is what keeps people stronger longer, and it’s not just about exercise," Anderson said. "Healthy living to me is people having time for themselves, being able to get some relaxation and a peace of mind."

Although the end of summer does mean that it is time to head back to school, the YMCA assures us that it also means family fun. From children to elderly, the association makes programs in which all ages are able to participate in.

5K for Turkey Day

An event that the YMCA is getting prepared for is the Thanksgiving Day Feaster Five Road Race that occurs on Thanksgiving morning. As one of the most prosperous events of the year, the 5K attracts all levels of participation and continues to be a striving community event. The YMCA will be the registration site for the widely praised event.

“We have programs to help people get in shape for Thanksgiving to either walk or run,” Anderson said. “If a family wants to go out Thanksgiving morning and walk the 5K, we’ll help them train and achieve that.”

If you are interested in participating in the Feaster Five Road Race, registrants will be able to pick up their shirt and race numbers at the YMCA from Nov. 21 to 23.

Additionally, if you are interested in signing up for YMCA’s fall programs, registration is open. Click here: http://www.mvymca.org/andover/.
