It looks like we won't have 12-16 inches of snowfall with this weekend's snowstorm.
New forecasts are projecting lower amounts, and North Andover seems to be in the 3-5 inches area or 5-8 inches area. If you split the difference, it looks like we should see about 5 inches of new snow Saturday into Sunday.
Why the sudden drop in expectations? The storm will have the same track, but the temperatures won't be low enough to drop as much snow as anticipated. WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard writes on his blog:

"With temperatures hovering in the mid and upper 30s we relied heavily on the fact the the storm will be strong and generate its own cold. That isn't happening. Not now, not tomorrow, not Sunday. So the numbers come down."
The drop in snowfall amounts will be a blessing to North Andover, which has already used up all its snow removal budget.

The storm track and behavior will be as expected: It will start with a mix of rain and snow Saturday afternoon, turning to all snow by Saturday night and continuing through Sunday morning. The snow will likely be wet and heavy.
