Walk for the Poor Later This Month

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is holding a walk at North Andover High School to benefit the poor on Oct. 29.

Do you ever hear about poverty and become overwhelmed with the feeling that you can't help? Well this month, all you need to do is go for a stroll.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a charity activist organization affiliated with , is holding their Friends of the Poor Walk on Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at

The walk is a nationwide effort launched in 2008 in order to provide a visible campaign against poverty. Last year, the walk gathered more than 17,000 walkers nationwide and raised more than $1.4 million.

To register to walk or make a pledge, visit www.stmikesvdp.org.

Money raised may be used for home visits, disaster relief, food pantries, housing assistance, job assistance, prescription drugs and other expenses for those suffering in poverty.
