Understanding "ICE"

The following was submitted by the North Andover Senior Center.

“ICE” is an acronym for In case of Emergency and it is an ideal program for the active senior on the “go” who has a cell phone.

A cell phone with an “ICE” sticker on it can become an indispensable lifeline away from home. In an emergency situation where the person is unable to speak, this sticker informs the Police, the Firefighters and the Paramedics that the cell phone has been programmed to reach a special “contact” person who is familiar with the health and medical condition of the individual needing emergency help.

This contact person could make critical decisions quickly or immediately notify the next of kin if necessary. A cell phone with an “ICE” sticker on it can become an indispensable lifeline away from home. This program is sponsored by our TRIAD group and “ICE” stickers will be available in the fall.

Senior Tax Work Program Update: At the annual Town Meeting on June 12, 2012, the town voted to accept the Massachusetts General Law Chapter 59 Section 5K Senior Work Program. The next step in the process is for the Selectmen to adopt the procedure that will be implemented.  As soon as this process is completed we will notify all departments and use local media to get the word out to all interested participants. We anticipate the process will start in early September.
