The North Andover Pulse: Native Born Presidents
Recent news about President Obama's birth certificate has Patch asking, should "naturalized" citizens be allowed to run for the White House?
The debate surrounding whether or not Barack Obama was born in the United States led to the president releasing, once and for all, his long form birth certificate. The debate stems from the U.S. Constitution's mandate that the president not only be a citizen, but a citizen only by birth. Other elected officials, senators, representatives, and governors, can be naturalized citizens, but not the person who sits in the Oval Office.
This week, Patch asks, do you think the Office of the President should only be held by native-born citizens, or should candidates like California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger be allowed to to compete?
