Update: Winter Weather Forecast Fizzles

North Andover was expected to get a couple inches of snow Thursday morning, but now that likely won't happen.

North Andover was expected to get hit with about two inches of snow -- maybe more -- early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. But overnight, the weather pattern suddenly changed and the forecast now calls for a dusting, if that. Any snow that does come will likely turn over to rain in the afternoon.

Most areas of eastern Massachusetts were expected to get about two inches of snow Thursday morning, but will now get a dusting or none at all. Areas west and south, which were expected to get up to five inches, will likely get a dusting as well.

The service emphasized there is some uncertainty about the forecast, saying there will be a "sharp cutoff" in snowfall totals for some areas. It could not say where those areas might be.
