Hurricane Sandy Sends Forceful Winds, Rain to North Andover

Your morning updates on the storm.

North Andover virtually shut down on Monday as the impact from Hurricane Sandy rolled into town.

The first power outages came at about 9 a.m. and were scattered and isolated. But by noon, there were hundreds of local customers without power. By mid-afternoon, that number went into the thousands.

Here are some things to keep in mind this morning when heading out:

National Grid crews are working to restore power. There is still no estimated time of restoration.

Schools are closed today.

Town Hall will be open today.

Trash pick-up will commence as scheduled.

State government offices will open late at 10 a.m.

The author discussion with Jordan Calher at the North Andover Historical Society scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

There have been trees and limbs down in several places since yesterday, so drive with caution.
