Hundreds of Local Homes Still Without Power

National Grid is working to restore power in the wake of Sunday's storm.

Hurricane Irene as it did much of the east coast, but a day later many in North Andover are still without power.

It's estimated that more than 500 National Grid customers in town have not had their power restored.

Emergency Management Director Jeff Coco said National Grid is working on restoring power in various locations, but for some it may be another day.

The power system operates on feeders. There are currently nine feeders in town that need to be fixed. The largest one -- which supplies power to more than 125 homes near Massachusetts Avenue, is expected to be fixed first.

But others scattered around town may be more than 24 hours -- possibly days -- from being restored, Coco said, adding that parts of Summer and Chestnut streets are reportedly still closed for limb and wire repairs.
