Five Things You Need to Know: Sept. 19

Some local news for your morning.

Today is Wednesday, Sept. 19. Here are five things you need to know:

  • Thar She Blows: Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-70s most of the day, with rain and wind throughout the day as well.
  • Aye, Pirates: Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day. So when you get to work, be sure to scream out "Arrrgh!" and "Ahoy Matey!" And if you can video the reactions and post them on Patch, even better. Also, there will be pirate activities at the Stevens Memorial Library.
  • Thar Be a Movie, Matey: Larry David and HBO are filming a movie on Great Pond Road. Check out photos here.
  • Ahoy, It's Autumn: Autumn starts officially this week. What does the season mean in North Andover? Discuss your favorite (or not-so-favorite) things here.
  • Ye Olde' Tales: In 1777, American soldiers won the Battle of Saratoga during the Revolutionary War. In 1819, John Keats wrote "Ode to Autumn." In 1957, the United States conducted its first underground nuclear test in Nevada. In 1970, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" premiered on CBS.
