Five Things You Need to Know: Oct 31

A mild Halloween awaits.

Today is Monday, Oct. 31. Here are five things you need to know:

  • Milder Day: Temperatures are expected to be in the high 40s most of the day, with clear sunny skies.
  • Power Outages: Many of you are still without power. National Grid will be releasing more information today about when you might expect to have your power back, so check back with Patch for updates. has been set up as a shelter for those of you without heat.
  • No Trick-or-Treat: Trick-or-Treat has been postponed until Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • No School: Public schools are closed today as well.
  • This Day in History: In 1864, Nevada became the 36th state. In 1922, Benito Mussolini became prime minister of Italy. In 1940, the British air victory in the Battle of Britain prevented Germany from invading Britain. In 1983, the Defense Department acknowledged that during the invasion of Grenada, that a Navy plane had mistakenly bombed a civilian hospital.
