Five Things You Need to Know: Oct. 29

Local news for your morning.

Today is Monday, Oct. 29. Here are five things you need to know.

  • Hurricane: We'll be feeling the impact from Hurricane Sandy today, starting this afternoon and lingering until Wednesday. Expect strong winds and heavy rainfall. Stay with Patch for storm updates.
  • No School: Schools have been closed for the day.
  • Halloween: Trick-or-Treat is planned for Wednesday and has not been canceled at this time. Check back for updates on that too.
  • Pumpkins: And speaking of Halloween, make sure you upload your jack-o-lantern photos!
  • This Day in History: In 1652, the Massachusetts Bay Colony proclaimed itself an independent commonwealth. In 1929, the Great Depression began with the Wall Street stock market crash. In 1966, the National Organization for Women was founded. In 1969, the Supreme Court ordered an immediate end to all school segregation.
