Five Things You Need to Know: May 28

Today is Monday, May 28. Here are five things you need to know:

  • Showers Today: Temperatures are expected to be in the low 70s most of the day, with thunder showers likely in the afternoon.
  • Memorial Day: Today is Memorial Day, a day to reflect upon and honor fallen heroes. There will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. on the Common. Government offices and schools are closed. Banks are closed. Most retail stores and restaurants are open.
  • Police Memorial: There will also be a ceremony to honor police officers who have passed away, at the at 9 a.m.

  • This Day in History: In 1863, the 54th Massachusetts Regiment -- the first African American regiment -- left Boston to fight in the Civil War.
