  • Winter Thaw: Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s most of the day, with clear sunny skies.
  • Meeting: The Conservation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
  • Energy Help: The Salvation Army’s Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund opened to applications on Wednesday. The fund is a cooperative effort between the state's energy companies, their customers and The Salvation Army. It helps households in temporary crisis who do not qualify for federal or state assistance with the payment of their energy expenses. This year's Fund disbursement is $350 per eligible household for the heating season. For more information on the Fund and how to apply, call 800-334-3047.   • Curbside Trees: Curbside Christmas Tree Pick-Up runs though Friday.
  • This Day in History: In 1793, Jean-Pierre Blanchard made the first successful balloon flight in the United States. In 1894, New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. launched the first battery-operated switchboard in Lexington, Mass. In 1929, The Seeing Eye was incorporated in Nashville, training dogs to guide the blind. In 1951, the United Nations headquarters officially opened in New York City.
