Five Things You Need to Know: April 20

Some news for your Friday morning.

Today is Friday, April 20. Here are five things you need to know:

  • Another Warm One: Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-70s most of the day, with clear sunny skies.
  • Battle of the Bands: Submissions for the Battle of the Bands contest are due today.
  • Letters: The nominees for Unofficial Mayor of North Andover are finalized, so make sure you vote (and tell all your local friends to vote) in the poll to pick the winner. And if you want to speak out for one of the candidates, post a letter to the editor by sending it to Bryan.McGonigle@patch.com.
  • Earth Day: Are you hosting an Earth Day event? Let the community know. Post it on Patch.
  • This Day in History: In 1775, American troops began the siege of British-held Boston. In 1832, Congress established the nation's first national park, Hot Springs National Park. In 1912, Fenway Park opened as the home of the Boston Red Sox. In 1998  Moses Tanui, 32, of Kenya, won the Boston Marathon for the second time and registered the third fastest time with 2 hours, 7 minutes and 34 seconds.
