- This Day in History: In 1775, American troops began the siege of British-held Boston. In 1832, Congress established the nation's first national park, Hot Springs National Park. In 1912, Fenway Park opened as the home of the Boston Red Sox. In 1998 Moses Tanui, 32, of Kenya, won the Boston Marathon for the second time and registered the third fastest time with 2 hours, 7 minutes and 34 seconds.
