Five Things You Need to Know: April 14

Watch out for that fog.

Today is Thursday, April 14. Here are five things you need to know:

  • Cloudy but Warmer: Today is expected to be cloudy, but temperatures are expected to be in the 60s by the afternoon. There is going to be thick morning fog, so be careful driving.
  • Sports Postponed: Yesterday's rain led to several sports events being postponed. Check back this morning for details.

  • Math Night: is having its first K-2 Family Math Night tonight at 6:30 p.m. If you have a child in grades K through 2, you can join this event of more than 30 interactive tasks focused on math concepts.
  • This Day in History: In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot in Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth; Lincoln died the next morning. In 1902, James Cash Penney (J.C. Penney) opened his first retail store in Wyoming called the Golden Rule Store. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan announced a U.S. bombing air raid against Libya. In 1990, Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken began a streak of 95 errorless games and 431 total chances by a shortstop. In 2002, President George W. Bush sent a letter of congratulations to JCPenny's associates for being in business for 100 years.
