Buried: Bay State Blasted by Blizzard

About a foot of snow fell Sunday night into Monday morning, and more is expected to fall throughout Monday.

Much of the east coast was pummeled by a major snowstorm Sunday night that brought about a foot of snow to North Andover and promises to bring several more inches of it before Monday evening.

The storm was powerful and did a lot of damage across New England, but even with the massive blast of snow and wind, North Andover was spared disaster for the most part Sunday night into Monday morning. The reported no emergencies Sunday night, and the reported none as well.

"There was nothing out of the ordinary last evening," Fire Chief Andrew Melnikas said Monday morning. "People probably headed the warnings throughout the day on various newscasts. The information that they give is pretty much what we would say, as to don't drive unless absolutely necessary , keep batteries on hand, plenty of food, water on hand, etc."

Residents seemed to prepare for the storm. Both and reported big crowds of customers all day Sunday, with people stocking up on food and emergency supplies.

There were also very few power outages in town, despite there being more than 50,000 homes that lost power statewide.

The storm is expected to continue into Monday afternoon, with the winds staying heavy until Monday evening. So residents are advised to stay home if travel is not necessary. If you must drive drive with extreme caution and
