Wine-ding Down Summer

Fine wines for the end of summer.

Seasons change, as does our taste in food and wine. The at First and Main Marketplace has a vast variety of wine choices for a wide range of tastes.

Sam Messina, wine director at Wine ConneXtion, recognizes the clear schedule that sales of red versus white wine follow.

“It is like a clock,” he said. “From October to May, red wines rule and come springtime, the reds go to sleep and the whites take off and rule right up until Labor Day.”

Now, as the weather toggles between hot and cold, consider these seasonally appropriate wines.

“They have enough body and acidity to hold up in the cooler weather,” Messina said. “On 50 or 60 degree nights they are still perfect wines.”

White

Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier 2010 - “Right now Pine ridge is one of our fastest selling wines,” said Messina. This particular white is pleasing to many palates because of the combination of the two light yet different varietals of grapes.  One is dry and the other is perfumey. The blend, balance, acidity and flavor of this wine make it an ideal choice.

Red

Chalone Vineyard: Monterey County Pinot Noir 2009 – This red is lighter in style and very food friendly.  It is a nice choice when outdoors on warmer or cooler occasions.  It can be slightly chilled for about 15 minutes to 65 degrees to help take the acidity and heat out of the wine. An all around appetizing wine; it pairs well with spicy foods, seafood, barbeque foods, roasted meats, turkey, ham, hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza.

Wine ConneXtion came to North Andover 18 months ago and offers consumers valued wines at discount prices.  They are constantly looking to bring in the best and latest wines on the market.

“If customers are looking for something that’s exciting, we have it,” Messina said. “If it’s something that is going to be exciting in the future, we have it.”

Wine ConneXtion offers weekly wine tastings on Saturdays and have had great success in informing and educating their guests. Keep your calendars open for a grand tasting on Oct. 22.
