What You Need to Know About the Topsfield Fair: Thursday, Oct. 4

Here's a look at some of the special things you will find at the Topsfield Fair on Thursday, Oct. 4. Check for this daily feature here on Hamilton-Wenham Patch through the fair's closing day on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8.

Thursday, Oct. 4 is the seventh day of the 2012 Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair in the country. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. The agricultural buildings close at 10 p.m.

In the grandstand, Austin Mahone will take the stage at 7 p.m. Mahone, 16, is a pop singer who took the Internet by storm with viral videos in the past year. The concert will also be simulcast at the Trianon Stage.

The winner of the King Arthur Flour Favorite Scones Contest will be announced at 9 p.m. in Coolidge Hall.

The final midweek evening parade of the 2012 fair will make its way through the fairgrounds on Thursday at 5 p.m.

While Beulah the Elephant's birthday party happened on Wednesday, but at 10:30 a.m. in the grandstand you can still meet Beulah.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also continue their performances, presenting their musical ride at 6 p.m. in the arena.

At 1:30 p.m. in the arena, the spectacular Hallamore Clydesdale 8-Horse Hitch will be on display. The Friesan Classic begins performances in the arena at 2:30 p.m.

Admission is weekday pricing - $11 for adults on Thursday. It is the final day of the lower weekday prices. The price goes to weekend and holiday price - $15 starting on Froday. Children under eight are free with a paying adult. Parking is $10 per car.
