Local Woman Launches Art School in Town

Julie Faro's new business aims at helping new artists discover their potential.

Think you might have a little Picaso or Monet at home? One way to find out is with art lessons.

Lifelong North Andover resident Julie Faro has launched a new art school at 84 Main St. (across from the First & Main plaza) and will be hosting an open house Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Faro's journey to that small-yet-colorful classroom space on Main Street has been one of self-discovery.

"I took art lessons when I was a kid at Tatia's Art Studio on Marblehead Street," Faro said. "It's kind of something I've always wanted to do."

Faro later helped out with teaching at Tatia's when she was in high school and then got her degree in art and graphic design at

"I did marketing for a mortgage company for two years, but it wasn't really my thing, being inside," Faro said. So she got her teaching certificate and taught as a special education tutor and did her student teaching for visual art in Amesbury.

Last July, Faro had a baby, and like many women looking to balance a new family and work, she decided to start giving art lessons and rented out that space on Main Street just a short walk from her home.

"I figured, I'm home, so it's the perfect opportunity because I'm home anyway," she said. "I had always wanted to do it but I could never find the time with work and school."

Faro's lessons focus on visual arts including acrylic painting, watercolors, drawing and more.

Classes start next Tuesday night, April 10. Faro is offering a 10-week class for $150 and a 6-week class for $100. Students must bring their own supplies and can purchase supplies through Faro.

"I have four people signed up now," Faro said. "It's enough to get me started hopefully."

The school is centered around children, but Faro is offering lessons for adults as well.
