Home Grown Lacrosse Brings The Outside In

Not just lacrosse - Home Grown offers soccer and flag football as well.

If you are looking to bring the thrill and excitement of outdoor sports to an indoor environment, look no further than Home Grown Lacrosse.

Home Grown’s indoor training space and turf field is a state of the art facility founded by Bryan Brazill in 2005.  Initially an outdoor program, Home Grown acquired the former town office space on Osgood Street in 2007 and created an indoor location for year round training and activities in the sports of lacrosse, soccer and flag football.

Brazill is a graduate of Merrimack College and an experienced lacrosse coach. When he first started Home Grown he focused exclusively on private lessons and had half of his existing space. The high demand for his time necessitated expansion leading to the acquisition of additional space within the building and the development of varying clinics, camps, leagues and teams.

The introduction of soccer and flag football to the already established lacrosse program has been extremely positive for Home Grown.

“The soccer and the flag football have been so cool because it is non-competitive, skill building in a fun and safe atmosphere for kids,” said Brazill.

The soccer training program at Home Grown is run by Roland Dudney, a USSF and NSCAA advanced licensed coach who offers foot skills sessions throughout the year.

“Roland makes it fun for the kids,” said Brazill. “He is the program.”

In addition to Dudney’s contributions, Brazill attributes the popularity of all of Home Grown’s sports to Pete Smyth, the boys’ program director, and Corrine Baker, the women’s program coordinator. Other names to note include: Mike Morgan, Matt Karweck and Dan Boothby.

Summer camps are another popular offering from Home Grown and this year they are heading into their sixth year of camps. Some of the camps to plan for this summer include: Youth lacrosse camp, U-12 soccer foot skills camp at Merrimack College, high school lacrosse recruiting camp at Merrimack College and the Academy Team for boys and girls. Contact Home Grown as soon as possible to determine openings in their final Academy Team tryout scheduled for February 28th from 8-10 a.m.

Academy Team participants have the benefit of strength and conditioning coaching from Dan Boothby, the head strength coordinator at Northeastern University, private lessons from the Home Grown coaching staff, recruiting guidance, league and tournament play and weekly practices.

Home Grown has a lot to offer across many ages. Youth and high school programs are widely available and adult leagues are also an option. Converse holds a company pick-up soccer game every Friday at noontime and the team at Home Grown welcomes these kinds of groups.

“We are open to anything that makes sense,” said Brazill.
