Historical Society Offering Kids Time Travel Summer

"adventures in Time" offers kids a glimpse into the past.

Have your kids ever wanted to get into time travel? Well now they can, sort of.

Registration is now open for the North Andover Historical Society's unique program of summer fun, "Adventures in Time," suggested for kids ages 7 to 13.

In "Our New Nation," from July 11 to 15, kids will embark on an adventure of discovery into the lives of those in the 18th century who made the newly formed United States a reality.

Kids will also learn all about the sailor's life with a trip to Salem, Mass., to visit the Peabody-Essex, the House of Seven Gables and the Salem Maritime National Park. PArticipants can learn to cook over an outdoor fireplace, create a Penney Rug and make a quilt top. They will also visit the Addison Museum of American Art to learn how art can open a window into the past.

From August 8 to 12, in "A Child’s Life," kids will learn what childhood was like in other times. They'll look at earlier pastimes and create their own toys and games from many time periods. A trip to the Andover Historical Society will introduce them to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Farmer Boy and then they will explore toys from the Space Age at the Wenham Museum. A Big Birthday Party for all will end our week.

The fee is $140 per week, $250 for two weeks (NAHS Family members receive 20 percent discount, and second child receives 10 percent discount).

Limited scholarships are available; inquire in writing.
