Warm Humid Weekend, Cold War Hike

Here are five things you need to know on Friday, July 12.

  • Hot Humid Weekend: Temperatures are expected to be in the high-80s Friday and Saturday and spike into the 90s Sunday, with high humidity and possible scattered thunderstorms all weekend.
  • History Hike: The Friends of the North Andover Trails Guided Hike Series will have its History Hike: Cold War, Sunday at 2 p.m. The hike will examine the role North Andover played as selected by the Department of Defense for the nation's first Sentinel Anti-Ballistic Missile base. Meet at the parking area at the end of Sharpners Pond Road. The hike will take about an hour and is suitable for children. Dogs must be well behaved and leashed.
  • Kudos: Kids from Franklin Elementary School recently raised $1,000 for the North Andover Senior Center.
  • Political Visit: State Rep Diana DiZoglio will visit the North Andover Senior Center Friday at 9 a.m.
  • Blogging: It seems there's a glitch in the new Patch 2.0 system that is rejecting blogs as spam. If this happens to you when you post, please contact Bryan.McGonigle@patch.com so we can fix it.
