Eagle Scout Builds Shed for Town

Ross McQuate put his skills to work for youth sports.

Next time you're at the Carl Thomas Field, check out that nice new shed along the fence.

That shed is there thanks to Eagle Scout Ross McQuate of Boy Scout Troop 87.

Ross, 17, chose to build the shed with the help of several volunteers for his Eagle Project.

"I played on Little League ever since I was little," Ross said. "My dad always helped on the league so I wanted to give back some."

The shed, which took three weekends to build, went in place of a storage unit.

"It was hard but it was fun and taught me a lot," Ross said. "We had around 20 different scouts and a few adults from the troop."

The project was funded with help from the business community.

"We sent letters out to local companies, and four or five ended up donating," Ross said.

Ross is entering his senior year at North Andover High School. He's already looking at colleges, but while the Eagle Scout shed project was fun, he has no plans to go into construction. Instead, he wants to study biology or history.

"Leadership and encouragement of younger boys are important aspects of Scouting clearly embodied in Ross," said Helen Pickard. "Only 7% of scouts achieved the rank of Eagle in 2012, so this speaks to Ross's commitment and ability."
