Is a Beaver Pond Keeping This Gem From Selling?

The homeowner certainly believes so.

At the end of Bridle Path stands a big yellow house on 3.6 acres of secluded land and an interior fit for a magazine. You'd think people would be racing to put offers in, but it's been so difficult to sell that the price was just reduced by $200,000. "I can't figure out why this house isn't selling," Margo Kealler, the homeowner, said as she walked into her gourmet kitchen. "This kitchen was once in a magazine." Kealler -- who runs her business, Park Street Travel, out of her home -- believes what's keeping buyers away isn't inside the house, but rather outside. Down a slope from her house sits a beaver pond, and Kealler said several potential buyers have shown up, looked at the pond and left. Kealler and her husband built the house at 257…

North Andover Barber Shop Has New Owner

She comes from a long line of barbers.

Diane Nocco started cutting hair when she was 16 years old. Her grandfather and father were barber -- the family owns Bob's in Tewksbury -- and she and her sister both decided to follow in the family trade. And now, Nocco is bringing her skills to North Andover. John Moffat recently sold his business, North Andover Barber Shop in the Chickering Plaza, to Nocco. But to Johns many loyal clients: don't worry. He still has a chair at the shop and will be there every Friday and Saturday. He'll also be managing an apple orchard in Littleton, and selling the barber shop allows him to spend more time with his wife and baby. Nocco jumped at the opportunity to buy the shop. "Well I saw a good opportunity here, with the barber shop for sale, and it's…

Your Next Car: What's It Going to Be?

I'm hoping to drive my old beater into the ground before we need to get another car, but I'm on the lookout. What's your next car going to be?

My wife and I drive a perfectly good 2002 Nissan Sentra with 127,318 miles on it. "Stella" has four wheels and gets us from Point A to Point B. We've reached the stage in the life of the car where we don't repair body damage (as you can tell from the accompanying photo). I'm ashamed for my Dad to see it. But hey, it's paid for. Even though I'd love to get 200K miles out of Stella, she has some mechanical problems, like a seized bolt that has left the transmission fluid unchangeable for about eight years. She could conk out any old day. So we've been on the lookout for our next car. I'm paying attention to car commercials, asking friends about their cars. You know the feeling. We're looking for something that gets good gas mileage, and is …

They were honored for quality of care and management.

The National Affordable Housing Management Association has designated Wood Ridge Homes a "Community of Quality." Sitting on 23 acres of land near Wavely Road and managed by Barkan Management Company Inc., Wood Ridge Homes is North Andover’s largest affordable housing complex. "I have had the pleasure of managing Wood Ridge Homes for almost ten years now and I have always known what a special property it was," Property Manager Tracy Watson said. Trader Joe's in North Andover? Not Likely

Selectmen raised the topic Monday night.

If there's one thing many North Andover residents seem to agree on, it's a desire to see Trader Joe's open up a store in North Andover. But don't hold your breath. "How closely do you work with Trader Joe's?" Selectman Rosemary Smedile asked property manager Paul Simon (who was part of the team with Oakgrove presenting a propsal to buy the Bradstreet School property) Monday night, hinting of the possibility of that business going into the Bradstreet location. She added that she was joking, but emphasized that many in town would love to see Trader Joe's come to town. The problem with that is that, Simon responded -- and Water Street Retail spokesman Stephen Stapinski agreed -- is that Trader Joe's requires a certain amount of space as well …
