Live Music This Weekend: Squeezebox Stompers

Here is a round-up of live music throughout the North Shore this weekend.

This weekend is packed with live music on the region and a whole bunch of bands playing a wide variety of music genres, from classic rock to blues and soul, can be seen for free at rock clubs and restaurants throughout the region. This weekend is packed with live music on the North Shore and a whole bunch of bands playing a wide variety of music genres, from classic rock to blues and soul, can be seen for free at rock clubs and restaurants throughout the region. The Me and Thee Coffee House in Marblehead is featuring two talented and experienced musicians on Friday night. From a blurb on the venue website "Shawn Mullins translates life into song. His musical accomplishments include a dozen self-produced records, two number one charting songs, Grammy nomination and thousands of live performances. North Andover High School Singers Going to San Francisco

The North Andover High School honors chorus, the Scarlet and Black Singers, are traveling to California April 5-9 to participate in the San Francisco Festival of Gold. Only the nation's most-accomplished musical choirs are invited to perform at this exclusive event. NAHS’s chorus was invited after singing in Philadelphia last spring where they earned gold medals for their performances. “We have an hour long clinic with a famous clinician, will be part of an adjudication with other gold medal groups at St. Ignatius Church, and also get to perform at the renowned Davies Symphony Hall where we are conducted by famous conductors and get to sing with the other gold medal students from across the country,” reports Mrs. Sara Durkin, NAHS chorus …

Silent Comedy 'Grandma's Boy' Coming to Merrimack

The silent film era returns to the big screen at Rogers Center for the Arts on the campus of Merrimack College. with the screening of a classic silent comedy and short subjects, all accompanied by live music. Showtime is Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. All are welcome to this family-friendly event; admission is free and the show is open to the public. Featured will be a full-length comedy, 'Grandma's Boy,' starring Harold Lloyd, a popular 1920s film star. Comedy short subjects will include 'Neighbors' (1920) starring Buster Keaton and 'Mighty Like a Moose' (1926) starring Charley Chase. UPDATE: Edgewood's 'Mrs. Drinkwater' Postponed

The production will be Feb. 18.

Due to uncooperative weather, the Edgewood Retirement Community's production of “The Original Mrs. Drinkwater Presents … A One-Woman Show Performed in Three Parts” scheduled for Monday was cancelled. But don't worry, the local show with Italian-American humor will be here soon. The show will be Feb. 18 at the Edgewood Community Clubhouse, 575 Osgood St. The show focuses on Mrs. Drinkwater, a feisty character living in Boston’s Little Italy in the 1950s, played by actress Laura Bellusci. Admission is free and open to the public.

"The show will help to raise money for Erin Dawson, who has recently been diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer (the most aggressive form of brain cancer). All the proceeds will help to defray the mounting medical costs that Erin has, and will continue to have. The Oscars: Did Your Favorite Film, Actor Get Nominated for an Academy Award?

Seth McFarlane and Emma Stone announced the list of nominees for The Oscars awards today, see the list here.

Steven Spielberg's film "Lincoln" led The Oscar hopefuls with 17 nominations, but Cambridge's own Ben Affleck was left off the list of hopeful for best director today when the list of nominees was announced. The Huffington Post reports that the media was abuzz when neither Affleck, Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables") nor Katherine Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") made the list for Best Director.   The trio's films did make the list of movies up for Best Picture, along with a host of others, including Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Ang Lee's "Life of Pi."
