Zora Warren Submits Nomination Papers

The School Committee candidate is ready to campaign.

North Andover's local election is starting to take shape, and another candidate has turned in nomination papers for School Committee.

Zora Warren is running for the seat, currently held by Chris Allen. Allen has announced that she will not run again.

"My motivation is really just the success of our schools," Warren said. She currently has a daughter in second grade and another in kindergarten.

Warren, a North Andover resident for the past 10 years, will bring an extensive educational resume to the race. She's a former teacher, having taught social studiesat R.J. Grey Junior High School in Acton and Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School in Groton.

More recently, Warren has worked for Sun Associates in North Chelmsford, evaluating curriculum and education programs for students of all ages focusing on American History Grants.

"My role was to help the projects really solidify and shape their goals and identifying benchmarks to meet their goals," Warren said.

She graduated from the University of Illinois and Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Warren said that if elected she plans to focus on strengthening a centralized curriculum for the schools; enhancing communication between administration leadership, schools and parents; and better definining district and school goals.

So far, Warren will face off against Mark Mezzina for the seat.

Zora Warren is exactly what our schools need, someone who has working experience to draw from and a real vested interest in our schools succeeding.

Yes indeed. She does have a "Vested Interest". By her own acclaimed resume - a vector that directly points to the Education/Industry Complex. A steathly cartel of connected insiders consisting of self-serving contractors, consultants, unions, grant writers, political operatives, lobbyists, suppliers, and career opportunists that shuffle in/out the public/private education sector. Let's not be oblivious to the obvious.

Cool conspiracy theories aside ... I believe candidates like Zora are exactly what this school system needs.

Zora, like myself, is a parent of North Andover school children, she understands first-hand the impacts this school system has on our children. Like Zora, I also believe that public schools can provide a solid educational experience for our kids and a foundation for future success in higher education and in life in general.

Unless I am being completely oblivious, it is obvious that Zora more than any other candidate, understands that without parents, community leaders, and committee members who are engaged, vocal, and yes, "vested", in the process of establishing curriculums and communicating with school administration, we risk complacency, lack of improvement and failure to provide our kids with the best public education possible.

Good luck Zora.

A salad of soothing words of platitudes to defend the undefendable. The connected self-serving education special interests fear the inevitable great parasite purge. When the education/industry complex Host dies - so do the Parasites. The kamakazi grandmothers of North Andover by true real-life experiences know the difference between tripe and hearty nourishment and will vote accordingly.

I will not debate with someone who does not have the courage to use their own name when trying to besmirch the motives of someone they do not know. I know Zora and she is bright, hardworking and as far as I can see has one motive, to make sure her children and all of the children of North Andover receive the quality education they deserve.

Zora will unquestionably continue the complacent policies of our consistently leftist Democratic school committee majority. What is the result: never has any class at any North Andover school received 100% proficiency on the MCAS. All are required to achieve this by the 2014 exams. Zero will. That is the objective result our school system has attained on that great 'standards-based' educational experiment. More of the same will, well, give us more of the same..

The obvious is that these advocates for Zora have figments to defend... and voting blocs to appease. The Hermes power scarfs are on full alert and are muster ready to mime the banal talking-points put forth by their powerful entrenched benefactors until election day. It's not considered lying if nobody believes it .. but it does act as a diversion for those not paying strict attention to the stealthy agenda's at large. Vote informed .. Vote intelligent. Vote for our students and not for the special interests.

cool fusion, I appreciate your input in this public dialogue, however prior to commenting on a candidate, you should really have an understanding of where a candidate falls on certain issues. I assume you are a North Andover resident. If this is true, surely you understand that having a strong public school system is fundamental to property values and ultimately we are compared to competing and aspirant communities. Surely as an educated person such as yourself, you realize how important strong performing schools are when young families consider where to settle. You should consider this when you cast your vote for the next school committee member. This is exactly why I put my full faith and confidence in Zora Warren. Why don't you try to meet her, and ask her where she stands on these issues.

Apparitions In The fog. You're at least a score of days early and are most probably in the wrong blog. This recurrent "Property Values" threat that is 3rd from the top in the list of scare tactics put forth by the "Special Interests" propaganda machine is intended to be utilized much closer to election day and is usually invoked when the proposed inflated school budget is advanced. One should be very disheartened by this ZW advocate who elevates "Property Values" above the welfare and optimum education of ones children. That said: No school budget proposal has ever been denied in three decades and we still remain a relatively low tax town - which has always been a prime concern for our seniors and middle-class citizens.

Sadly not Natalie - I wish, but your not the first to inquire. My understanding is that Mr. Quinian is an intensely sincere family man and a dedicated upstanding member of our community and unfortunately I just dance like it hurts, love like I need money, and only work when people are watching. I would blog under my real name if I were not confined all these years to the Witness Protection Program for the setting of the Reichstag fires. However, unIess you attempted to "Square the Circle", I believe that you may have missed my point.. that is: "selfless" and "vested interest" are kinda .. let us say .. ah maybe like .."opposites". As for the hyphen, I wasn't concerned. Whatsa "-" or two between friends.

Just to clarify (again this year), the League does not endorse candidates, nor do we give any candidate an advantage over another in any way during our forums. I find it offensive, that many of us put so much work into making sure our local North Andover/Andover forums and voter service work is done fairly, only to be accused by anonymous posters of chartering candidates. If anyone else would like to do the work we do to help educate voters prior to elections and town meeting in a nonpartisan manner so that citizens can make up their own minds, please step forward. The more informed the voter, the better in my opinion. And I enjoy the spirited debate that often is seen here on Patch. But posting lies and accusing me and others of giving unfair advantages to and helping certain candidates is unacceptable.

Oooh, that's going to leave a mark... But I rather enjoyed this comment with its caustic story-telling style and comic expansiveness .. and even charmed by its self-serving audacity. To wake up knowing that those inner elements of the human soul which are most unique in awareness, most custodial, and serve as protective early warning Canary signals are now scored as “Aberrant”, and are considered dire threats by the agenda driven amongst us. It's not a "Forum" .. it's a "Running of the Gauntlet" by any who dare to challenge the LWV's preselected favored candidate.

I thought the 'non-partisan' palaver who inextricably negated by the LWV attack ads against Scott Brown in 2010. (http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2011/05/12/league_of_women_voters_defends_tough_new_ads/) As I recall the local LWV disavowed those partisan National LWV types. The brand is soiled.

You are not going to always agree with everything an organization does, there are pros and cons to being involved...
May 13, 2011
To the editor:
The League of Women Voters of Andover/North Andover (LWV-ANA) has been placed in the very difficult position of explaining the actions of League leadership at the state and national levels. Our local chapter of the League wants to go on record as strongly disagreeing with their decision to run ads singling out U.S. Senator Scott Brown for his vote in favor of the McConnell Amendment No. 183, limiting the powers of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The LWV-ANA was not made aware of these ads before they began airing. We have communicated our disagreement to the state and national League leadership.
The League of Women Voters was founded 90 years ago as a nonpartisan political organization with two main functions: educating voters and studying issues of concern to our communities.
The dedicated members of our local League have worked very hard to provide Andover and North Andover citizens with access to accurate information about issues affecting our communities and encourage active participation in the democratic process.
We do not condone the ads being aired. Our local League will continue to discuss what further steps need to be taken to preserve our vital nonpartisan role in the community.

What can I say but recite a quote directly out of Shakespeare's Hamlet. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks". A tactic with a long sordid history. Look it up.

I've come to a considered judgement on the postings of Mr. Quinlan and Coolfusion.
The vitriol of their comments lays clear their disdain for the democratic process. No contrary opinion should be heard. They have a monopoly on the truth. Anyone with ideas contrary to their own is an idiot.
I think our town, this site, and our country is better than that. I want this election season to be an opportunity for North Andover to consider the state of its schools, its biggest single expenditure, and what policies and leaders will help them improve the most. It is an important conversation in which we should all be engaged.
So, as my New Years resolution, I won't take the bait nor respond to the ad hominem attacks. I'll go to the candidates forum and hear from both candidates and when the election is over, I'm confident that whomever is elected will do everything in their power to make this community a better place to live.

IMHO, this post is a form of personal attack. Sort of a backhanded attempt to ostracize other posters. Then after the personal attack, the holier than thou attitude that he won't participate in personal attacks.

I don't have a problem with the poster posting his opinions except that personal attacks from some (let's call them the Patch elite) produce the "Please don't attack other posters" response from the Patch while this type of post doesn't produce a peep.

Your 1/28 8:30 PM post was preceded by my 1/28 2:57 PM response to Heather McNeil's 1/27 spin message. So specifically where did you post a message after a leftist 'attack'?

What often is the case, just like in the NBA or professional wrestling, is that the referee doesn't see the first offense or deems it insignificant but gets his attention. Then when the retaliation comes, the referee sees it and says something. On some occasions, the first offense doesn't result in any retaliation and finally the aggrieved party lets out the equivalent of a four letter word (e.g. socialist). That will get you tee'd up in a hurry.

So I suggest you get in the first dig, and make it subtle, and let your opponent respond.

If this is less NBA and more professional wrestling, there's nothing you can do.

Creating a stealthly ruse .. used to confuse
