VOTE 2012: Rise of the Underdogs
DiZoglio and Ives emerged as winners on the Democratic side and Toohey took the GOP Primary.
The voters from both parties -- and independents -- have spoken. And now the general election races have been set.
Turnout was low in many districts, but in North Andover it was pretty high, at about 14 percent.
House 14th Essex
In a surprise political upset, Methuen's Diana DiZoglio defeated incumbent State Rep. David Torrisi in the Democratic Primary, about 1,600 to 1,435.
Torrisi won in his home town of North Andover (but came up short in every other community in the district.

Senate 1st Essex
In another political upset, in the Democratic Primary former Methuen Mayor William Manzi and Haverhill progressive Timothy Coco were both defeated by Newburyport City Councilor Kathleen O'Connor Ives.
Ives received 3,881 votes, Coco received 3,320 votes and Manzi received 3155 votes.
In the Republican Primary, Haverhill's Shaun Toohey defeated Haverhill's Sam Meas.

In the Governor's Council, 5th District, race: Eileen Duff won the Democratic Primary and will face off against Republican Maura Ciardiello.
In the Register of Deeds race: North Andover's Paul Iannuccillo will face off against John Wilson Jr.

If they're really 492 people that voted for Torrisi in North Andover.. i'm double locking my doors and buying a steering wheel bar lock for my car. That's a very scary statistic.
