Unofficial Mayor Nominee: Joyce Bradshaw

We're rolling out the nominees, and the town clerk made the list.

Patch is holding an Unofficial Mayor of North Andover contest, and our first nominee is Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw.

"She does everything for North Andover, best Town Clerk in Mass, she knows everyone, she is kind and helpful," Diane Huster writes. "All-in-all a wonderful person and North Andover would be proud to have her as honory Mayor."

Being town clerk is not easy, and being town clerk in North Andover requires a lot of stamina. In the past 25 months alone, Bradshaw has helped organize:

  • Three local elections, one of which had to be moved to a whole new location at almost the last minute.
  • A presidential primary, which also had to be moved at the last minute.
  • Five Town Meetings (counting the one she is currently organizing) -- including one which had to have its date changed due to a legal technicality and two special autumn Town Meetings that popped up in 2010 and 2011.

And that is in addition to her everyday work as town clerk.

Know someone who should be North Andover's unofficial mayor? There's still time to nominate! Send a nomination letter (a paragraph or two, or more if you like) to Bryan.McGonigle@patch.com by Friday, April 13.

Joyce is always available, always helpful, and has trained her staff to be just like her. North Andover is fortunate to have a Town CLerk like joyce who goes above and beyond. She encourages local democracy by cosponsoring a workshop on the nitty gritty of Running for Office. And, she has knowledge f North Andover history that ise encyclopedic. Great choice.

Me too, she is so so real and has been a huge help to me at town hall with things concerning my disabled son, second choice would be Jeff Coco, he gives so much as well.

There is no question that Joyce is tops. She is always so helpful, cheerful and dedicated to the town and its citizens. I would however also nominate Charlie Salisbury as the "citizen" mayor of the Town. Over the past 15 to 20 years, Charlie has worked extremely hard for theTown on numerous issues, let alone town meetings, appointing finance committee members, multiple terms as a Selectmen and attending various other board meeting. He has always been available as a resource to those involved in government or in helping citizens bring matters to town meeting. On numerous occasions he has demonstrated his incredible knowledge of town government, state and municpal laws and North Andover's history. His unprecedented and undefeated legacy at the ballot box in North Andover makes him a strong nominee for Honorary, if not actual, Mayor of North Andover.
