Tsongas Endorses Torrisi
The congresswoman joined several local officials to show her support.
As voters prepare to select party nominees in Thursday's primary, State Rep. David Torrisi has picked up high profile support for his campaign in the Essex 14th House District.
Supporters gathered at Methuen City Hall Tuesday morning as Congresswoman Niki Tsongas formally endorsed Torrisi for reelection.
"I’ve been very fortunate to work closely with David on many projects including the Mann Orchard’s solar array,” Tsongas said. “David’s roots in the Merrimack Valley are deep and it shows in his dedication to the work he does both in the Statehouse and in the community. He is a powerful advocate for the Merrimack Valley, securing critically needed dollars to fund schools, police and fire departments, libraries and other integral town and city services. He is tirelessly focused on economic development and small business growth. I am confident that David will continue to be the strong advocate the Merrimack Valley needs in the legislature and fully support his bid for the Democratic nomination on Thursday.”
Tsongas and Torrisi were joined by former State Sen. Steve Baddour, former State Sen. Jim Jajuga, former State Rep. Arthur Broadhurst, former State Rep. (and current candidate) Barbara L'Italien and others.
Torrisi, a Democrat living in North Andover, served as a North Andover selectman in the 1990s and has served as state representative since 1999. He serves on the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, House Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change and House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight.
He is in a race for the Democratic Primary this year against Diana DiZoglio of Methuen.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Congresswoman Tsongas,” Torrisi said. “Niki has been a great friend and tremendous colleague over the last five years. Her commitment to public service and the betterment of her community has made her a welcomed ally. I look forward to continuing our partnership to work for and on the behalf of our constituents.”
