A system was in place consisting of valves and channels that allowed the company to contain and clean up some of the spill.

"They have a containment area set up, so we assisted them in diking and containing the spill," Weir said. "There's no watershed there or runoff, so we were able to contain it."

Weir added that there is no damage to the environment reported, Merrimack Valley Oil was able to pick up about half the spilled fuel, and an environmental company will be there throughout the day to clean up the rest.

It was a busy morning for firefighters. Earlier in the morning, there was a small fire at a home on Francis Street.

"It started in the drier vent or outside where the drier vent exits the home," Weir said. "There was couple thousands of dollars worth of damage."

Weir said the situation could have been much worse, and firefighters put it out before there was any extensive damage.
