Spectrum Adult Day Health Program Receives Donated Art

The following was submitted by Spectrum Adult Day Health.

Through their art donation program, The Art Connection facilitated the donation of 23 original works of art by 17 artists for installation in Northeast Senior Health’s second Spectrum Adult Day Health Program, located in North Andover.

Newly opened in April 2011, Spectrum Adult Day Health Program is located on Route 114 in North Andover and serves people with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders.  Spectrum is the only day program in the region recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association for its commitment to staff training and support.

“Spectrum strives to create a ‘homelike’ atmosphere for our clients and families, and Artwork plays an important role in creating a comfortable and enriching environment for our clients and families,” said Darcey Lepisto Adams, Director of Community Programs at Northeast Senior Health.  “This original artwork will help us to achieve this goal and we deeply appreciate these donations of artwork from The Art Connection.”

The Art Connection and Spectrum worked together to transform Spectrum Adult Day Health Program at North Andover into a more welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors.  Northeast Senior Health’s Spectrum Adult Day Health Program staff, clients, and board members formed a selection panel and chose works in a variety of media by artists Ken Beck, Sarah Berry, Rachel Ellis Kaufman, JoAnne Chittick, Marian Dioguardi, Frances K. Grossman, Faith Hyde, Virginia Boegli, Chalda Maloff, Lily Z. Miao, Carol Monacelli, Susan Schwalb, Marcia Sweall, Mayo Sorgman, Stephanie Warburg, Mark Hopkins and Sue Wurzel. Images of the artworks are available on request. An April 2012 showcase event is being planned.

“Every time I work with an agency as they select the art that speaks to them most, I learn something about their community’s culture and mission,” said Sarah Berry, program manager for The Art Connection.  “The work selected by Spectrum Adult Day Health Center demonstrates the way the staff, board, and families of the participants work together to ensure that theirs is a calm and vibrant space welcoming to everybody.  I was impressed with the diversity of styles and media the Center’s selection committee agreed upon, and I am certain the collection they have chosen will be enjoyed by this community for years to come."
